I’m sorry to say, but it seems that fans of The Bare Naked Ladies are far and few between. Those of you who are still in love with the band, may find it difficult to find others who are willing to discuss the music and past ‘successes’ of the crew. Well, in my area there are actually a few band fan clubs that get together to discuss the music, the members and anything else their little hearts desire. I was thinking this would be such a great idea for those of you who are looking to find fellow fans of the old, but yet, still not forgotten band.

If you’re not familiar with the process of setting up your own fan club- it’s really quite simple. You can hold the club at your house, or the home of a friend. You can start out small and just offer coffee to the members of the club, but by accepting a weekly donation of $1.00 per member, the group will be able to offer more snacks and drinks to those attending the fan club. After you decide on the location, you can advertise your new fan club using online social networks or putting flyers around the town.

The club may start off small at first, but eventually through word of mouth and passing out flyers, you’re Bare Naked Ladies fan club may grow to be quite large and you’ll have lots of people to share your fan devotion feelings with. Even if the club remains tiny, only having a few members, you’ll be able to share with those members and possibly develop some friendships with others who have similar interests.

If you’re a die-hard fan, you’ll probably own and would like to own a bunch of different stuff that represents the band. It was surprising to me to find just how many different things you can get with the band’s name and/or picture on it. While looking around on the internet I found the typical items such as; t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats. But, I also found coffee mugs, pajama pants, buttons, posters, notebooks, pencils and more. There seems to be no end to the amount of items the band has to sell, and from what I’ve gathered, these items continue to sell quite often and companies continue to restock them.

I guess it’s a good thing for the band. I’m guessing their probably not making too much money from their CD’s because, let’s face it- the band is old news and everyone who is a big fan of the band already owns a copy of each CD, including the never released hits that someone surfaced on the web. So anyway, I bet these products are still bringing it quite a bit of money for the band long after their retirement from the music industry.

For those of you looking to add some new items to your bare naked ladies collection, I noticed that some of the prices on the web were absolutely ridiculous. I’m sorry, but I refuse to pay $60.00 for a sweat shirt for a band that wasn’t even legendary. If you’re looking to get some nice things without paying a fortune, you’d benefit from checking out Amazon and EBay. I actually found quite a bit of items for prices that were more than reasonable.

For those of you out there who are huge fans of ‘The Bare Naked Ladies’, did you know there is a fan club for the band that is still going strong?  Yes, that’s right. The last post on the fan site was in late January, and although the band is no longer together- their legend surely lives within their fans. At this time, the fan page is also offering an exclusive opportunity for those who join.

From my understanding, you are required to pay a fee if you want to join the fan club. I’m not sure how much, because I’m definitely not that much of a fan- However, upon joining you get a free BNL t-shirt and a member’s only keychain! From looking through the fan site, it certainly has everything that any fan could possibly want all in one place.

A forum is available so that fans can get together to discuss the band. There is a live music area, a picture area, a blog and show information. The fan club also links to a store where you can buy all the Bare Naked ladies items your little heart desires. The news archive also features easy to access links of everything that’s been put on the fan page since the creation in 2009. An extras area on the page offers an area where you can get free wallpapers from your computer and AIM icon downloads featuring the band.

Pass the word on for those you know who love the band. The club seems to be doing well and has enough members to keep the fan page up, active and full of new posts.

"The Barenaked Ladies had 7 original albums, 1 live album and a greatest hits album."

Did you know that the band ‘Cowboy Mouth’ opened up for the Bare Naked Ladies in 1999? The concert was at the New York world theater and it nearly sold out. Since then, there has been little information as to what became of the opening band.

One of the band members of The Bare Naked Ladies also appeared in the sitcom ‘Two guys, a girl and a pizza place’. They played a character that had lost his job at the pizza place and was on search for a new one. It was only that one appearance on the sitcom, and it was their only television time they ever had other than their concerts that were aired.

The band member Kevin Hearn was diagnosed with leukemia shortly after the band ceased. He went through extensive treatment and his determination and strength got him through it. He has now recovered and is doing well.

Andy, a former member of the band, still works on solo projects with his brother Jim. While they have yet to publish anything they have written, it is just an activity they enjoy doing together and are not trying to make a living from it.

The band began performing in 1992 and didn’t break up until the year of 2001. During that time, The Barenaked Ladies had 7 original albums, 1 live album and a greatest hits album. The greatest hits album was released shortly before their retirement and featured a 2-disc set of all of their most popular songs and a few of the bands favorites.

We all know the band well and now we know how the band broke up, but how many of you know how and where the band formed. Well, the Barenaked Ladies started as a duo of just Ed and Steven. The two were friends in school and reunited later in life. As they become closer, they realized they both shared a love for the same type of music and began playing together.

After playing as a duo for a short time, the band began playing with the other members who were soon to join together as ‘the Barenaked Ladies’. They were only playing for fun, as they all shared a love for music, and never expected to be a well-known band, as they became.

The band first released their demo commercial in 1991 called ‘The Yellow Tape’. After the release of their demo, many quickly became fans of their music and awaited the release of their first album. When their album was finally released, 3 of their songs became well-known hits that were often heard on the radio and buzzing through teen headphones. These songs were ‘the old apartment, pinch me and one week’. Throughout the bands short life, these continued to be the favorite among fans.

The band even made the billboard top 100 while they were in their prime. Many of their fans were saddened to hear the band was breaking up, but still continued to listen to their tracks. Even to this day, the Barenaked ladies can still be heard by old fans.

The Bare Naked Ladies, we meet again. Since my last bad experience trying to listen to some old songs by The Bare Naked Ladies- I decided to team up with one of my girlfriends who still enjoys the band very much and listen to a few of her CDs.  I have to say, while listening to the music; I started to recall why I once did really enjoy the band and their catchy songs.

To this day, I think that ‘If I had a million dollars’ is my favorite song by them. It has a good rhythm I feel and is a fun song to listen to. I don’t know every word to the song- like my addicted friend, but of all of the songs we listen to, I did still enjoy this one the most.

All of this music made me wonder at last- what happened to the band anyway? My friend- of course, knew all of the details and filled me in. Apparently, the singer of the Bare Naked Ladies was arrested on drug charges sometime in the year of 2008. Only a few months after the arrest, he left the band. So, basically no singer- no band. Steven Page- the lead singer was caught in the possession of cocaine, along with his roommate and girlfriend. They were let off with a promise of staying out of trouble for the upcoming 6 months. Steven wished the band well, said they were like his brothers and then moved on, not heard of within the music business thus far.

I was thinking about The Bare Naked Ladies and how I haven’t heard them in a very long time. I think they were popular for a short time, but I honestly do not know what happened to them since them. I’ll have to do my research and update you all on their current status. Well while thinking about them I decided to look them up on You Tube and I have to say it was a mistake.

I looked up “If I had a million dollars”. Well I think it is a good song, the band does have some cute music, I will not deny them that. My dilemma was this. The video took like 10 years to load, so I forgot about it. Then I began watching a show I follow on a weekly basis, well the video decided to play right in the middle of what I considered a very important part of the show. Instead of just playing for a little while, the song decided to skip exactly where it said ‘if I had a million dollars’, and then my computer decided to freeze. So, while trying to watch my show, I had this playing repeatedly in the background- to the point where I wanted to smash my computer. I decided to take the battery out, and all was well again.

It’s been a long time since I listened to them, but I did own a CD, when CD’s were actually used and everything wasn’t placed on an iPod or MP3 player. Now it is time to do my research and find out what interesting things I could tell you about the Bare Naked Ladies.

The Joy of “One Week”

Back in high school, I had a big thing for songs that were sung quickly, with a fast beat and words that you could barely discern. Songs like Savage Garden’s “I Want You” made me sing fast and without abandon, with everyone around me wondering how I was able to learn the words so quickly. I have always been a fast talker, and songs that were equally as fast made me feel like I actually belonged to our citizenship—something that didn’t happen again until I lived in Spain among other fast talkers like me.

When the Barenaked Ladies—a band that I’m not actually a fan of, at least anymore—came up with their upbeat, fast-talking song “One Week,” I was able to enjoy it once again. I remember hovering over my aunt’s stereo in her basement—likely the same way people did with much better songs twenty years before—straining to hear each word and commit it to memory. This was before it was even on the radio or on films like 10 Things I Hate About You, by the way—I had actually obtained a copy of the song on a CD of mixed music for free from my favorite record/incense/other hippie supplies store.

Had I known how popular the song were to become, I probably would have still enjoyed listening to it and impressing my friends with my quick memorization of the fast lyrics, but maybe not as much. It was much more fun to know something that no one else had heard as of yet. I remember another song on that CD was “Blue on Black,” another to-be hit; but any other song on the CD was virtually still unknown.

If the song were introduced today, would I still love it? I must confess that I likely would, especially since my little girl loves their stupid chimpanzee song. But then again, as annoyed as I’ve been with the band’s overuse in popular culture, films, and television, I just might not. In fact, I would probably change the station.

Many of us are pretty darn sick of them; I remember when they came to my college campus five years ago or so and no one wanted to go. I’m sure it must have been a little embarrassing for the band, but I also went to a school full of rednecks, so they probably just wanted to hear Toby Keith.
